A PERSONAL WORD:

Ranking high at the top of the industry for extremely bold, massively large statement jewelry, this pendant serves as a perfect example of what put Federico’s name on the map and why he is so highly sought after. Pushing the boundaries of jewelry design comes effortlessly to him, since his pieces are created in a fearless, uncompromising way.

A wide array of buyers seek him out for their own personal reasons — many are drawn to his over-the-top designs, while others appreciate his delicate Oaxaca-made dove and filigree jewelry. No matter what your favorite reasons might be, one thing that can’t be denied is that each piece is powerful and will always command attention, catching the eye of someone, somewhere.

THE PENDANT:

You can’t beat the beauty of our ocean’s colorful light show, and this piece puts that brilliance fully on display!!

To create a pendant this large, an artist must work with exceptionally oversized material — which is why a stunning whole abalone shell was used as the pendant’s central focal point. Above it sits a carefully chosen large cut of abalone that highlights the shell’s breathtaking periwinkle tones, framed by a border of chunky Baroque pearls and long, linear abalone cuts that emphasize and define its impressive 9½" length!

The showstopper whole shell is truly spectacular in color because when you turn it, the top portion reveals vibrant purply pinks and mauves, while from the middle down, the most amazing, heavy-hitting limes, periwinkles, and yellows appear. What I find especially impressive is how they used the holes that naturally occur in the abalone shell and filled each one with a delicate line of pearls that were carefully glued into place. How beautiful and inventive!

Made mainly as a pendant, but has a pin as well, which I believe was not meant to be worn as a pin since the pendant is too heavy to be used as one, but more for keeping the pendant stationary when worn, if you need.

THE SHEPHERDS HOOK CONNECTION:

If you zoom in on photos 28 through 31 you’ll see the connection. This has a large, thick gauge shepherds hook that measures 5/8” in width. If you have large chunky beads you want to wear with this, the necklace you choose will either have to be strung loosely so you can spread them enough to fit under the shepherds hook (photo 28) since they will not be able to fit if the necklace can’t separate enough and are too chunky. (See photo 29) If you’re handy with knowing how to work with sterling & a pair of needle nose pliers, you can gently open the hook up to accommodate the diameter size of the necklace so they can sit up under the hook.(If you don't work with metal, a reputable jeweler can easily open the hook up more with a pair of needle nose pliers)

If these methods can’t work work for you, the next option is getting a “Bale Converter” that you will hook under the shepherds hook. (see photos 30- 31) The opening of the bale converter is extremely important, since the opening has to fit the diameter of the necklace. Another important factor, is the loop at the bottom of the converter, has to be wide enough to fit the width of the shepherds hook. For the photos, I used Tyler Brown’s 24 mm bale opening with a 7/8” wide loop at the bottom.. I have 2 different bale converters listed for you to check out that are under this same “Pendant” category.

WEIGHT & NECKLACE LENGTH:

Weighing just under a ½ POUND, I do want to mention that whatever you put it on, the necklace’s string material has to be strong to accommodate it's weight. For balance and proportion, this size looks best with a chunkier bead-style necklace rather than anything delicate or skimpy. From my professional opinion, a 26-inch length or longer will showcase the pendant most attractively, allowing it to sit well below the neckline and away from the chest where it might otherwise protrude.

I must note, that to capture the shells outrageous vibrant color, most of my photos were photographed on a side angle to give you an idea of it’s showstopping color! The ‘straight down’ photos show it a little differently. Remember, each monitor shows color either more vibrant or less vibrant, so it’s best to look at all the photos to get a rough idea of the color!
