ABOUT TYLER BROWN:
The son of the late, legendary Navajo artisan Dean Brown, the still relatively young Tyler Brown has already made a significant name for himself in the industry and is widely regarded by many (including myself) as a master Navajo silversmith, despite being only in his early 30s. It was Dean, who began teaching Tyler the art of crafting traditional Navajo jewelry when he was a young teenager. Although his father was Tyler’s primary influence, Tyler was fortunate to be born into a large, celebrated family lineage of Navajo artists — a clan of highly respected artisans known throughout the trade and to whom he is directly related. So it wasn’t just Dean who shaped him; Tyler’s uncles also played an important role, including artisans such as Hemerson Brown, Anthony Skeets, and Lee Charley (with cousin Matthew Charley), and the late Navajo silversmith Kirk Smith, who was a second uncle to Tyler. When you grow up surrounded by so many of our industry’s giants, it’s hardly surprising that their skills, knowledge, and art would naturally rub off.
Based out of Gallup, NM, Tyler is frequently requested by name by collectors. I would personally say Tyler’s work is recognizable for several reasons that immediately identify his hand: 1) His incredibly varied, BOLD cluster designs. Yes, there is a lot of cluster work out there, but Tyler’s approach is how he carefully handpicks stones in a variety of shapes and then arranges them that give his jewelry the unique patterns they have.. He often turns stones in unconventional ways, giving his clusters a modern, edgy sensibility that stands apart from other artisans. 2) He works with heavy-gauge sterling so you feel the presence of each piece, and he also favors super-chunky stones, so that when worn, his jewelry reads as a true “WOW” piece you can both see and feel !! 3) His impeccable workmanship is evident in every detail. 4) His use of high-grade materials and thoughtful color pairings lets each stone pop when placed side by side, resulting in visually striking, harmonious designs.
Regardless of how modern the industry becomes, Tyler is still considered “Old School,” faithfully following the traditional Navajo techniques of his ancestors that were used long ago, and he continues to design most pieces from scratch.

THE PENDANT:
Tyler created this remarkably made pendant to emulate a Native tribal “Chief”. Except for 2 accents of blue turquoise, this abstract looking chief is entirely made with pearly deep lavender Russian Charoite & oval cuts of Japanese white coral. Charoite is a rare mineral that comes from one place & that’s Siberia Russia. It was discovered in the 1940s and is known for its unique swirling, fibrous patterns and chatoyancy. It’s a very popular stone that is used a lot in Native made jewelry & happens to be so popular, that many of my customers come into my store asking for it by name. It also complements a wide variety of wardrobe colors!
With all the stones following the form that are dictated from the large oval Charoite ‘Face’, the chief is adorned with a double layered cluster headdress and at the finale of the headdress, he wears sterling feather charm earrings. (I do want to mention that on the left side of the pendant, one of the feathers are soldered to the ring they dangle from. So while the other 2 move, this one does not. However, this does not take away from the pendant in any way!
THE SHEPHERDS HOOK-BALE CONVERTER:
The pendant is made with a ‘Shepherds Hook” that hangs on your necklace, but for added versatility, AND as a added gift, I am throwing in a FREE “Bale Converter” made by Tyler that is totally removeable, as well as interchangeable! The bale opening of it has about a 5/8” opening (15 mm) so any bead diameter size under that, should fit. If you zoom in on the last 2 photos , you will see how it connects onto the shepherds hook. Personally, I believe this is the ultimate way to go these. You can also turn any of your other shepherds hook pendants into a bale connection!
If you decide to opt out using a bale converter, you can wear this with just the shepherds hook connection that will hook onto your favorite sterling bead necklace, as long as the beads of the necklace will spread enough to hook over whatever the necklace is strung with.
In my professional opinion, this size pendant looks better worn with a necklace that's in the 22" to a 26" length. But this is your call!
PRICING IS BASED ON:
****The Artist, the artists reputation, material quality, amount of carats, the cost per carat and being that everything has literally at least doubled from what it was a year ago, the cost of sterling has also sky rocked . Unfortunately, this was made after the price of sterling had sky rocketed in price, which is being passed onto me and then you. Also reflected in price, is the time involved for Tyler to make it..*
