ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Will is a devoted and deeply passionate artist who lives to create beautiful jewelry. He is more than “just a silversmith,” having advanced his knowledge and refined his skills to include working in gold as well.

Born in Fort Defiance, Arizona, he attended school in Gallup, New Mexico, where he remained to work in the production of turquoise and sterling jewelry. He now lives in southern Arizona and creates pieces from his home studio and when he is not spending long hours—often eight a day—designing jewelry, he is on the road attending gem shows and Indian markets.

Since the days of Charles Loloma, more and more traditional Navajo artists like Will are stepping out of the box by incorporating non-traditional stones into their work—using gems such as opals, chrysoprase, ammonite, and other unusual materials you don’t often see in classic Navajo jewelry. That said, when it comes to turquoise he remains committed to tradition: his first choice will always be to work with the highest-quality turquoise stones available on the market.

Will once said, that he always hopes his work will become someone's pride and source of happiness, worn with affection and cherished for years, with jewelry that is truly "well loved and well worn."

PALOMINO VARISCITE/TURQUOISE:

Although technically not turquoise, "Palomino turquoise" is actually a industry name for variscite. It comes out of 2 geographical locations, with one being Nevada & the other being Sonora, Mexico. It is often found in pale yellowish tones and softer greens, which, in my opinion, don’t compare to the richer, more striking deep green seen in this particular cut. The color here closely resembles the intense greens commonly produced by the Royston mine.

Considered “rare” because of its very limited availability, Palomino variscite is a prized and premium find among collectors. Mined from a small, exclusive deposit in Nevada, this variscite is highly sought for its distinctive, earthy palette — displaying a range of subtle to vibrant colors — and for the often striking matrix patterns that give each piece unique character and enhance its desirability.

THE PENDANT:

One thing many of us love to see in turquoise is, first, its color and, second, the range of character and unique qualities that each individual mine contributes. This pendant was purchased precisely for those reasons — the stone is a striking, conversation-starting piece that needs no formal introduction, because it truly speaks for itself with it’s presence and unmistakable charm!

This color stone that Will chose is truly breathtaking, and if you love greens like we do, there’s no doubt you will love this pendant! I can easily see why this particular stone captured his attention the moment he saw it — its arresting presence is immediate. What jeweler in their right mind would even think about passing this one up? The stone displays a deep, foresty green with lighter green veining throughout, creating rich, natural depth. The stone is beautifully domed & has a spit shine finish to it.

The drop hangs from a small 7 mm opening bale, so a simple chain would be perfect — or if you own a sterling beaded necklace that will fit through the bale, that would work beautifully as well (a contemporary or oxidized finish would both complement it nicely).

It’s not large or heavy, but rather leaning toward the small, understated side at about 1.50″ long, yet I must say the quality of the stone itself more than compensates & over rides those modest measurements.
