This is a ring that came through my store, and one reason I couldn’t resist it was the turquoise. When I consider jewelry to purchase, I weigh a few important factors: the tools and techniques available in the era the piece was made and how well the workmanship was executed, along with how the stone(s) have held up over time—especially turquoise.

If an item shows age, I ask whether its color has shifted from contact with skin oils or other elements? whether it has dulled? and generally how well it has endured? What I immediately noticed with this particular cut was the “spit shine” glossy finish it still displays. That instantly tells me this is a superior quality cut, since that level of glossiness—especially on pieces more than 50 years old—usually fades with time. This finish indicates the turquoise itself is top notch & is a high-quality natural stone that has a hard grade.(MOH’S Scale) In turquoise, you have to remember, the harder the material, the higher the quality; higher-quality turquoise tends to resist color change over the years and often doesn’t require stabilization for a lapidarian to cut it.

With that said, it doesn’t surprise me one bit that it has all these attributes, because this is what you expect from “BLUE GEM” turquoise & especially mined that many decades ago. You just can’t get this quality anymore in loose cabochons unless they possibly come from some collectors private stash or if you do, expect to pay premium prices per carat. The deep signature teal tone that Blue Gem offers is like no other & even though there are other mines that produce teal color turquoise, none however, have that same rich teal!

It’s not an over the top size ring, but rather a dainty solitaire where the focal point is on the stone This has no hallmark, which was somewhat still common during this decade.
