ABOUT TERRY:
Actively working & selling his art since 1976, Terry Martinez is known & favored throughout the southwest for his 'old school' traditions that have been passed down from generation to generation since he comes from a long list of jewelers where most were artisans.. Still using traditional methods that were used since the 1800's, he uses heavy stamp work & 'plate rolling' to create many of his pieces.

Terry comes from a LARGE Navajo family that many in the industry know & any jewelry you get that's made by the "Martinez" family will always be a sure guarantee that you're getting a TRUE Navajo piece that will be as traditional as traditional Navajo jewelry gets! And this cross is without exception.. His immediate siblings happen to be Calvin, Rick, Leon Martinez & his sister is Readda Begay who happens to be married to master silversmith,Ernest Begay. (See my listings for his brother Leon) I learned not long ago, that Terry will no longer be making jewelry because of his illness with diabetes that is preventing him from working with his hands.

THE CROSS:
Designed with all that undeniable Navajo charm, this cross has deep stamping that went into the heavy gauge-non bendable metal. Terry's long time skills for stamping the sterling are precise & especially when you figure that the artisan has to have a mathematical mind, good dexterity, & skill to go through the metal without mistakes.

Accenting the cross is the most fabulous cut of premium green Carico Lake turquoise that has a 'milky-lime-ish' color & is a large cut with a lot of carat weight & a lot of the cost for the cross is really dictated by the quality of this one cut, since this quality goes for a good price per carat!

The cross hangs from a beautifully tooled tapered bale that is tooled in it's entirety.(See photos) The opening has approximately a 14 mm opening, but you want to go smaller that that with what you put it on, since the cross needs room to breathe & to move on the strand. I would use no bigger than a 12 mm bead size for these reasons.

It is neither too big nor to small,so you could use just about any length to put it on..I f I was to suggest, I would keep it in the 20" to 24" or so length. But that’s your call!
