ABOUT THE ARTIST:

There's a certain look that is found with the jewelry that comes out of the Gallup area & you can definitely see this geographical' s influence in Tyler's work. Now 32 years old & producing some of the hottest looking Navajo jewelry in today's market where he's built a name for himself that is now in high demand, Tyler could not escape the art of jewelry making since he happens to be the son of the late Navajo artist, "DEAN BROWN".. Dean taught the young Tyler the art of making traditional Navajo jewelry where he taught him 1st with earrings where he had him working with super light gauge 32 gauge sterling, so if there were many mistakes(Which there were!) it wouldn't be too, too costly.

Tyler comes from a long list of well known Navajo artists with just a few of his uncles being Hemerson Brown, Anthony Skeets & Lee Charley. His cousin is Mathew Charley & the late KIRK SMITH was a 2nd uncle.. He LOVES working with vivid colored materials & is always working on trying to come up with new ways to create different style cluster pieces, which are another favorite style that he loves making!

THE PENDANT:

This pendant is apart of a broken up set (each are sold separate) & is designed with a unique color of Spiny Oyster that leans toward having almost like a New Mexico red clay color, having somewhat of a "rusty red" color! Picked for perfection, each one of these cuts not only match in color from one cut to the next, but each cut are perfectly calibrated in size as well.. These cuts play a dominate role to the uniform look the pendant has.

What I LOVE is when an artist makes a piece that gives you some choices & that's exactly what Tyler did & that was to make the pendant versatile, where you have options!! You can either use his beautifully made bale OR remove it & use the shepherds hook! And the nice thing about having a removeable bale is that you can apply it to any other pendant you have that has a shepherds hook on the back! The bale has about a 15 mm opening (about 5/8") so you can wear it with a hearty strand of chunky sized Navajo Pearls!

In my professional opinion, this sized pendant looks better worn with a necklace that's in the 22-28" length. You want to drop this size down a bit from the neckline & a 18" length, won't give you the same effect that a longer strand will. But that's you call.
