What I love about Leon's work is he gives it to you straight & keeps it real, while never trying to be something he's not.His love for keeping his jewelry traditional will always be obvious. He stays close to his Navajo roots,where they'll be no 2nd guessing as to what tribe made the piece,because everything he makes will always have that unmistakable Navajo edginess!

Made with heavy gauge sterling,this sharp looking pendant is made with a large gorgeous cut of teal colored Pilot Mountain turquoise that has lots of brown matrix that almost gives it that 'boulder turquoise' look! By using the tear drop shaped cut of turquoise,it was this shape that then dictated the shape of the pendant. The size of the turquoise is not skimpy & small,but has a lot of carat weight to it! Accentuating & framing the stone are little beads of sterling that have a shell stamped design in each. These were made where he melted the sterling into little beads that he then hand tooled one by one before soldering them to the base. Placing these along the perimeter ended up giving the pendant a scalloped edge perimeter.

Equally as impressively made, the pendant hangs from one of his HUGE hand made bales that is a piece of art in itself! It's made in a 'zig-zag' pattern & is tapered & what's so great is you can wear this with some BIG Navajo pearls or smaller millimeter ones! The pendant/bale has a 'Vintage Revival" finishing & anywhere it's been tooled,the design is accentuated by the oxidation that's been left in the crevices.The advantages when you have this type of finishing is for 1,you don't have to polish it like you do a contemporary finishing & 2,it has that wonderfully 'aged' look as if it's 60-80 years old!
