ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Born, raised & presently residing on the Navajo reservation in the town of To’hajiilee,(Toe-hah-jah-lee) NM, Navajo artisan Dakota Willie was born to make jewelry. And when you got the last name "Willie" & your father is RONNIE WILLIE, there's no way you can escape the art of creating jewelry, because just about everyone in the family makes jewelry & all have made a name for themselves in the industry & are known worldwide. (See my Ronnie Willie, Tawny Willie (Cruz), Cooper Willie,Shaminika Willie & Rudy Willie listings who are just a few of Dakotas cousins & the latter being his uncle.)

Dakota learned like many Navajo children learn & whether it's the parents, the uncles, aunts or grandparents, in Dakota's case it was his father Ronnie Willie (See my listings) & his mother who took Dakota under their wing when he was only 8 years old & has now been making jewelry for 23 years.

Dakota is an "Artist" & not just in jewelry design, he also spends his time as a clothing fashion designer, loves to paint & loves doing anything that's artistic & creative..He specializes in traditional Navajo jewelry & many are made with a contemporary edginess..

THE PENDANTS:

Both pendants speak for themselves when we're talking about some phenomenal turquoise that has some eye catching character!

Design 1 is made with a soft teal green color cut of Stormy Mountain turquoise that has 'blocky' black chert character & can remind you of the black chert you'll find in Blue Diamond or even White Buffalo turquoise.. When it comes to carat weight in turquoise, this is a pretty big chunk,so it has quite a few carats! It's bezel set & has a simple twisted wire wrapping as to make sure nothing distracts away from the stones beauty.

Design 2 has a killer cut of Royston & has a personality all it's own!! One thing I can honestly say that this stone is so unique that if something were to happen 20 years down the line,(Heaven forbid!) you will always be able to identify it! About say 3/4 of it,is this beautiful sky blue color & then at the top is this true "Chocolate" colored matrix that's so brown in color & has these deep mahogany undertones!This pendant has a hammered twisted wire wrap. Both scream Navajo in design.

Both stones hang from bales that are unique for the fact that they are made in a rectangular form as opposed to a tapered bale-round form, like we usually see.The pendants have a average 2" length & from my professional point of view, this smaller size works well when they are worn on nothing longer than a 20" necklace. (18" is preferable) Anything longer,it will get lost & wouldn't be noticed as much. The bale openings have a 8 mm (3/8") opening,so nothing larger that can be worn for the necklace.These traditional pendants work well with a strand of Navajo Pearls-Oxidized beads.
