ABOUT ARTIE YELLOWHORSE:

Inspired by her Navajo medicine man grandfather, Curthair Yellowhorse, whose skill and passion for silver and turquoise set the family on its creative journey & who Artie credits as the principal influence and who could be considered the “culprit” who laid the groundwork for a tradition of metalwork and stone-setting that led multiple family members to become well-known artisans in the industry.

Artie was just 12 years old when she began making jewelry, learning the art with curiosity, steady hands and an eye for a good design.. As time passed, Artie saw a growing appreciation where by taking a contemporary approach to silver jewelry became clear, and she realized it was the right moment to bring her family together and form an enterprise to meet the public’s increasing interest in high-quality Navajo pieces. So in 1979, Artie and four of her family members launched the family business here in New Mexico, where everyone worked closely under Artie’s guidance and shared commitment. Their reputation for skilled workmanship and distinctive design quickly grew, and today their work is sought after and featured in art shows, galleries, and museums across the United States.
