ABOUT HARISON JIM:
For Harrison Jim, jewelry is more than an object of adornment—it is a continuation of place, memory, and tradition. Born in 1952 and raised in the Navajo populated city of Gallup, New Mexico, Harrison grew up in an environment where making art was part of everyday life. His Navajo and Irish heritage, together with the artistic traditions practiced within his family, became an enduring influence on the way he approaches his work.
His grandfather introduced him to silversmithing, while his grandmother and aunt surrounded him with the visual language of handmade art. Jewelry was worn, rugs were woven, and workmanship was present in the home. These early experiences gave Harrison an appreciation for work made slowly, thoughtfully, and by hand.
Although Harrison learned from his family members, he went on to deepen his knowledge through apprenticeships with respected silversmiths John Hall, Tommy Jackson, and McKee Platero. These relationships provided more than technical instruction. They helped shape his understanding of balance, proportion, stamping, casting, and the discipline required to make a piece that can endure for generations.
Today, Harrison Jim’s jewelry occupies a space between tradition and personal expression. His designs are distinguished by crisp geometry, controlled deep stamping/chiseled/saw work, and an understated strength. Rather than relying on excess ornament, he allows line, texture, and silver itself to carry the design. The influence of the Southwest is present throughout his work—from the angular character of the landscape to the vastness and beauty of the New Mexico sky.
Harrison works with traditional methods including ingot and tufa casting, preserving techniques that connect contemporary jewelry to generations of Navajo silversmithing. Yet his work is never simply a repetition of the past. Each piece reflects his own measured aesthetic and a lifelong relationship with the land, materials, and traditions that surround him.
The result is jewelry with a quiet authority: unmistakably rooted in the Southwest, firmly grounded in Navajo workmanship, and individual to Harrison Jim. His work continues to attract collectors who value not only exceptional silverwork, but also the history, skill, and sense of place carried within each handmade piece. You can’t get a better artist with exact precision!
A PERSONAL WORD:
While shopping for the store, I found myself drawn immediately to this particular piece. It literally stopped me in my tracks! After handling and carrying countless pieces of Native American jewelry over the years, I’ve learned to recognize when something has that “rare type quality” that sets it apart. This was not simply another ‘average’ pendant, nor did Harrison choose a cut of turquoise that was just another ordinary/average stone to fill a setting. There was something unmistakable about the combination of the stone, the silverwork, the proportions, and the presence of the piece as a whole.
The more I looked at it, the more certain I became: this was a pendant I could not leave behind. Yes, there were other beautiful pieces, but this one wasn’t going to be one of them. In fact, I wasn’t leaving without it in hand. Pieces of this caliber don’t come along often. They have a presence that is difficult to explain until you see one in person—the kind of work that makes you stop, look twice, and appreciate the skill and intention behind every detail.
It is a genuine privilege to offer this pendant in the store, and an even greater honor to carry the work of an artist capable of creating something that immediately commands that kind of attention.
THE PENDANT:
This pendant isn’t about being oversized or understated—it’s about getting everything right. It has a presence that feels perfectly balanced: substantial enough to command attention, yet refined enough to let the artistry speak for itself. With a piece like this, size is almost beside the point. What truly sets it apart is the exceptional workmanship and the extraordinary quality of the Royston turquoise.
The stone is the star—a premium, richly colored green Royston with the kind of character, depth, and natural beauty that serious turquoise collectors fully appreciate. Paired with Harrison’s impeccable silverwork, it becomes far more than simply a beautiful pendant; it is a piece where the quality of the stone and the workmanship meet at an exceptional level.
This is the kind of turquoise jewelry that doesn’t need to be oversized to make an impression. The details, the stone, and the workmanship do all the talking—and they speak very well.
THE BALE:
Shown here with a 10mm round Navajo Pearl necklace,(photo 2-not included) this pendant demonstrates just how important the right strand is to the overall presentation. When choosing a strand, I recommend selecting one small enough to pass comfortably through the bale while still allowing the pendant to “move and breathe.” So using any diameter size up to the 10 mm is perfect. That subtle movement is part of what gives a pendant its life when worn.
From a professional styling perspective, I would keep the necklace at 24 inches or shorter. A longer strand can cause a pendant of this character to sit too low on the body, where the workmanship and beautiful turquoise can lose some of the visual impact they deserve. The right necklace shouldn’t compete with the pendant—it should frame it, give it room to move, and let the stone take center stage.
**You are not paying for the size of this pendant, but rather the premium quality of the turquoise & the time and love that was poured into such a piece!
