Filigree is a real 'art' that's not only tedious & time consuming,but it's a technique that if not done right,it becomes obvious in the over all look.Just a couple of millimetres can make a huge difference in getting the form even & unfortunately not all jewelers can do it.It literally takes years & practically a lifetime to achieve status as being one of the best..Each wire curvature has to be mathematically even & well thought out & can literally take days,if not weeks to finish depending on how big the piece is.. There are many steps to filigree to make it perfect..

In Mexico there are different styles of filigree & with that said,even though these are considered a Oaxaca earring,the style of filigree that acts as the "Tail" is actually known to come from Chiapas. Normally we see filigree to be very lacy with lots of open space,(Like the center bottom portion of the earring)but with Chiapas filigree,the wires are soldered together & are precisely looped to perfection & sit in what appears to be in a bezel..(See photos,especially 5,7,9,10,11)
