ABOUT THE STYLE:
Arracadas were brought into Mexico centuries ago during the Spanish Colonial era and have since become one of the most traditional and recognizable styles in Mexican jewelry, especially associated with Oaxaca, Mexico. They represent the heart of Oaxacan tradition and are among the most sought-after pieces for those who value authenticity and heritage. Arracadas are made in a wide range of sizes, from delicate small hoops to extremely large, dramatic jumbo sizes — these are the latter.

THE ART OF FILIGREE:
Filigree is an extremely technical and mathematical art form that not all artists have mastered; it requires repetition, a deep desire to learn, great patience, and years of dedicated practice to do it correctly. Given those qualities, it is clear these pieces were made by one of Federico’s most skilled Oaxaca artisans.

THE EARRINGS:
These are not only some of the sexiest earrings, they are truly stunning when worn. If you appreciate this art form, it’s clear these are far from average or standard filigree—they’re among the better-made examples, built with a more solid, substantial approach.
Unlike many filigree pieces that are airy, lacy, and lightweight, these earrings feature greater wire density, which gives them added strength, pleasing weight, and lasting durability (see photos). You’ll notice perfectly formed circular patterns nested within curves of filigree wiring; those shapes must be mathematically precise to achieve the clean, exact look you see. The textured finish in the metal comes from serrating the surface before the circular forms are worked, an additional time-consuming step that contributes to the earrings’ distinctive appearance (see all photos).
The garlands of Italian red coral are hand-sewn, and the larger coral beads in the crescent’s broader section rest in their own tiny hand-made “cups,” each meticulously sewn in place. Smaller coral beads ornament every dangle, contributing richly to the overall appearance, and are secured by delicate wire wrapping at the base of the earrings. The result is culturally sophisticated while remaining firmly rooted in a timeless, traditional aesthetic.
