CUFF PROVENANCE:

This cuff came through my store from a Santa Fe’an family member who were Native jewelry collectors. They were downsizing on some pieces, with this being one.

*********************************

THE CUFF:

When I first laid eyes on this piece, two things immediately stood out to me. The first was the presence of old “Blue Gem” turquoise, and the second was the almost primitive, very raw-looking workmanship.

Regarding the turquoise, you rarely encounter Blue Gem of this quality anymore; unless it comes directly from a collector or a very lucky find. Blue Gem is known for it’s hardness and typically commands a higher price per carat than many other turquoise varieties. In short, it isn’t easy to come across. I also suspect that only the green cut, (see photo 5) might possibly originate from the Cerrillos mine.

In regard to the workmanship, I tend to overlook minor imperfections and am more forgiving, considering the limited tools and resources available during the period when this piece was made. To me, those very quirks and the obvious hand-made factor add to its charm and character, making it feel more authentic and full of history.

There are 3 various sized, various shaped stones that sit on a horizontally laid rectangular shaped plate that lays atop of the 2 thick hand twisted sterling wire shank. The cuff tapers to 1/4” at the gap.

PLEASE NOTE: What may look like a crack on rectangular stone is actually inherent to the stone & NOT cracked, nor faulty in any kind of way.

SIZING:

This is made for an average sized 6-1/2" wrist , but is made for a bit wider, but less meaty of a wrist, since it only has a 7/8" gap opening, which is meant for a little more skinnier wrist...Because of the sterling’s gauge, the gap can be adjusted with know how to accommodate your wrist. Cuff’s are one of the only bracelets that have to fit right, so it's of extreme importance that you know your wrist size and what gap opening works best for it to comfortably fit over the arm before purchasing.

If you're unsure about sizing, click on this link: How To Fit A Cuff. And while there, be sure to copy/paste the You Tube link, which shows you the “Proper” way to put a cuff on! I am an email away, so don't hesitate in getting in touch with me if you need!

I do want to mention that in photos 7 & 8,there is a Blue Gem turquoise ring that will soon be listed, so watch out for that! (It will be under the ‘ring’ category)

*****I do not consider myself a 'professional photographer" but I do try to give you photos that are 'realistic" in color. Remember, every monitor is different ,so while some can show something to be more vivid ,other monitors can make it look duller.

In order to show all the fine detail, close up photos tend to make the item look gigantic & everything also is much more magnified .So to get an accurate idea of how big this is, please view photo of it on the arm or you can pull out a tape measure & compare to my given measurements in the "Info".
