ABOUT THE ARTIST :
Delbert is widely regarded as a "Top of the Line Master Navajo Artist," and he has devoted countless decades to perfecting his craft. (Born in 1955) He is not only an exceptional artist in his own right but also a true mentor who has guided and inspired the careers of numerous aspiring jewelers, including his talented nephew, "DERRICK GORDON," along with many other traditional Navajo jewelers currently making their mark in the industry. Delbert is the kind of artist that many look up to when they seek both technique and inspiration for their own creations.

He occupies a prominent position at the very top of being one of my personal favorites, and this admiration stems from a variety of reasons. For him, it's not simply about creating a ring, pendant, or cuff bracelet; it’s the intricate work he does with the metal that transforms each piece into a true work of art. Delbert's approach is far from conventional; he is not an artist known for "simple-plain" designs. Instead, he masterfully crafts all the repousse work and heavily stamped applique embellishments that you see, layering them meticulously atop heavy gauge sterling silver. This method infuses each piece with an ornate beauty that is unmistakable. The appliques he creates are an art form in themselves and hold equal importance in the overall design as the beautiful turquoise stones.

Like any seasoned artist who has dedicated a significant amount of time to their craft, Delbert has developed a unique identity that quickly becomes recognizable to those familiar with his work. You can easily identify his creations by the distinctive, heavily layered, 'over-the-top' embellished appliques, as well as his careful selection of high-grade stones and meticulous finishing touches. Owning any piece crafted by Delbert is akin to possessing a magnificent work of art; however, in his case, it is art realized in the elegant form of metal and stone.

THE RING:

Designed with a free form cut of natural #8 turquoise that sits securely and confidently in a handcrafted serrated sawtooth bezel, this piece is truly notable. Surrounding the exquisite stone are Delbert’s renowned appliques, which he meticulously hand-makes himself, ensuring each ring is unique. Enhancing the ring's distinct southwestern charm, you will find beautifully stamped Thunderbird designs that further embody the spirit of the region (See photos).

If you zoom in on the last photo, you’ll see I have 3 different sized rings by Delbert and all have #8 turquoise. I do want to mention that this ring for some reason, went through without a hallmark. Fortunately this rarely happens, but it has happened, not just with this ring, but I have carried other artists where the piece will go through without a hallmark. If this matters to you, then maybe choose one of the other 2 I have posted that are hallmarked.. I do know it’s Delbert’s, not only because I have carried his work now for many years, but because of who I got the ring from who directly gets them from Delbert!
