This brooch is the perfect example that makes those of us who collect Mexican vintage, drool every time we see such phenomenal designs that came out of the infancy days of Mexico..

This came from a estate collection & by looking at the collection, this was one piece that literally "WOW'D me,not only for the well kept shape it's in,but the picturesque precise workmanship was something that made me realize that it's pieces like this that have made me a sincere collector for many years now.

This is early 1930's (Maybe even late 20's?) & you can see a very early "Matl" style in this, along with what "Casa Prieto" was doing & a little like the dove work that is being made in Guanajuato present day. The 1st 2 mentioned, were also Mexico City artisans,so it seems to be a style based out of Mexico City, more than early Taxco.

Framing the large rectangular sky blue stone is the most impressive cut out work of floral & vines that actually started as one piece & was then all cut out (See backside photos) This type of work deserves appreciation & literally takes a master artisan & as you can see,was perfectly done. The picturesque center is nailed into the stone & is designed with a flower pot of blooming flowers of green turquoise along with 2 doves sitting on the ledge of the pot.The silver work is detailed that gives texture to the metal.Green turquoise is in the center of the flowers in the cut out work. I am not sure what the blue stone is & is the color of Larimar (But is not!)

This is a real keeper & if I kept what I buy to resell, this would definitely be the piece!!
