THE MEZCALA PEOPLE:
From the mountainous region of Guerrero in modern-day Mexico, the Mezcala culture is famous for its prolific production of stone sculpture, which includes human figures, animal effigies and architectural models, with many dating as far back from 300-100 BC. Little is known about this ancient civilization, other than that it chose to bury its dead with these abstract, esoteric stone carvings, and that it was the only one of the Mesoamerican civilizations to have been so focused on architecture.

FEDERICO & THE STONE FIGURE:
Besides having adorned many of us with his various phenomenal and distinctive styles of jewelry, many people may not realize that Federico's background is actually rooted in the study of antiquities, a passion that began all the way back when he was just a young child. You might say that this deep connection to history and culture is one of the key reasons he decided to open his own museum in Oaxaca—a place dedicated to showcasing to the public the beautiful and historically significant art forms that have richly filled the country he is so incredibly proud of. Fascinated and deeply intrigued by history, Federico went on to immerse himself in learning everything about these ancient art forms that were flourishing throughout Mexico, some of which date back as far as the "BC" period. Truly, there is very little you could ask him about Mexican antiquities and cultural treasures that he wouldn't be able to share with you in great detail.

THE PENDANT:
This historical figural Mezcala Jade pendant holds a prominent place among Federico's most cherished interests, as it dates back several centuries. While the stone itself is ancient, the pendant itself has been skillfully designed in modern times. The figure rests comfortably in a bed of sterling silver and is carefully set in a simple bezel setting, designed specifically to ensure that it doesn’t distract in any way from the intricate and elaborate sterling work surrounding it.
The figure is meticulously sculpted from a very dense jade stone, showcasing a rich, deep forest green hue. It is notably heavy in weight, in fact, it weighs more than many larger cuffs and necklaces! Although the pendant features a sizable figure for its category, it remains relatively smaller compared to other Mezcala stone sculptures, which are typically much larger in scale.
Hang this on you favorite necklace, whether a strand (s) of sterling Navajo Pearls or colored stone! If you know how to open or close shepherd hooks, then this can be opened more to accommodate a larger bead size or multi strand necklaces. Given my professional opinion, I would put this on a necklace from 20” & longer.
