Having worked with Federico for some time now, it’s no wonder I’ve witnessed some of his most spectacular designs using just about every kind of stone imaginable. I don’t care what material he chooses, because I truly believe his pieces possess a special power that will always make you look and feel like a million bucks. Honestly speaking though, Federico’s exquisite and innovative designs always seem to possess a truly remarkable ability to steal the spotlight, effortlessly directing attention onto you while simultaneously making you feel as though you're the only person in the room who truly exists in that moment. THE NECKLACE:

This eye-opening, head-turning necklace is designed with a striking “Mayan” vibe. The motif echoes the ornamentation you might associate with noble or royal Mayan jewelry—who traditionally worked in jade or turquoise—yet here the look is rendered in luminous abalone. The necklace features numerous 1" x 3/4" rectangular abalone panels that play a dominant role in the overall design: 10 cuts per side in the neckline alone and 9 more set into the 3.75" X 2.50” non-removable pendant drop. What truly enhances this remarkable piece are the 7 chunky tear-drop dangles, each about 1" x 1/2", which add movement and presence.

All abalone pieces are bezel-set in heavy gauge sterling silver, contributing to the necklace’s substantial weight—over 3/4 of a pound (see info below). As the necklace moves, the abalone reveals an extraordinary palette of lime greens, periwinkle blues, mauve-pinks, golden yellows, and tannish greys.

To help protect the abalone from the elements, each cut appears to have a thin resin-like coating that also adds a subtle extra shine.
