ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Navajo artisan “Martha Cayatinito” is a respected artist who ranks high in the industry for her hand-wrought, old-school, vintage revival, traditional Navajo jewelry. She comes from a family where it seems everyone either makes jewelry or is connected in some way to the arts, giving her a rich cultural foundation and deep roots in jewelry and tradition.

THE NAVAJO PEARL NECKLACE:

Designed with all the undeniable look of Navajo jewelry, this necklace is made with hand-made sterling beads. Making each and every bead is truly an extremely labor‑intensive process. Depending on the bead size Martha envisioned, the method begins with cutting the sterling into a flat circle, which is then domed; then by taking two half‑domes, they are then soldered together to form a complete bead. Any stamp work is done before the two half beads are soldered..Next she carefully drills each hole. Each bead is then hand‑finished and strung individually, one by one. All of these meticulous steps are why “Authentic Navajo Pearls” truly stand out above the rest.

There is nothing used by manufacturers that makes these beads any faster to produce, since these beads in this necklace are made the “Old School” way—by hand, using techniques passed down from the artists’ ancestors and often taught across generations—resulting in a character and individuality you simply don’t see in most modern imitations.

THE DOUBLE BAR PUEBLO DRAGONFLY PENDANT:

Adding tradition to the design is a “Pueblo Dragonfly Double Bar Cross” sand-cast turquoise Naja pendant that hooks to the non-removable “Bale Converter,” so it can be easily detached thanks to the Naja’s shepherd’s hook connection (see especially photos 9,10 and 11). This versatility is a feature that raises the bar of the necklace, so you can wear this by either using this particular pendant, or swap the present pendant out for any other shepherd’s hook pendant you may have for a completely different look!

A NOTE: If you’re going to replace another pendant you have that has a shepherds hook, just be sure that the hook on your pendant is skinny enough to fit through the loop at the bottom of the bale converter.

The necklace is richly oxidized, giving it it’s vintage revival aesthetic, so it will compliment any of your other oxidized Native jewelry!

FOR YOUR INFORMATION:

Because of how these beads were made, ALL Navajo Pearl beads are hollow, with some being light in weight, while others are heavy. The weight of a Navajo Pearl necklace is dictated by the GAUGE of sterling that the artist chose to work with & then of course how big the bead is & the length (More beads)

Because of the lighter gauge Martha used to make these beads, makes it very wearable & light on the neck, without putting strain on it.(See weights below)
