Kewa Puebloan Artisan- WARREN NIETO- Mosaic Inlaid Sleeping Beauty Turquoise- Symbolic Detail Pueblo Pendant - 18" Leather Necklace

$450.00

Everything Warren makes,he makes with his Pueblo-Anasazi ancestral roots in mind. You might say that Warren is one who lives & breathes his culture & there's not a time where he doesn't incorporate a symbol(s) somewhere within his art that has some kind of spiritual-heavenly meaning.. I have to admit that out of all the Puebloan people I know, he's one who loves sharing his culture with you & how he proudly incorporates it in his art.You can really get a sense of the history of the Kewa people every time you talk with him..

Connected to a black leather single strand, hangs the artistically made mosaic inlaid pendant, that is made with Sleeping Beauty turquoise & sterling symbols that are apart of the Kewa culture & close to Warren's heart...If you zoom in on the photos, especially photo 3, you will see the symbolism within the mosaic work.At the very bottom (below the earth so to speak) is the sterling "Circle of Life" (Or journey) symbol & also below are the sterling "Kiva Steps". For those of you who aren't familiar

with the "Kiva", what it is is a special made building used by Ancestral Puebloan (previously known as Anasazi-(Ancient Puebloans) to perform rituals and ceremonies. Kivas are still in use among modern day Puebloan people for ceremonial & ritual purposes. You will always see this symbol used by Warren whether on the front sides design or by his hallmark.

Growing above the ground is the sacred corn plant & if you notice(also in photo 3) the 4 colors of corn..Red,Blue,Yellow,White..These colors of corn also represent the 4 directions(Red-south/Blue-west/Yellow-north/White-east)The stalk turns into the "Double Cross-Pueblo Dragonfly".

The art is mosaic inlaid atop of a dark brown pen shell & if you check out the backside in the 11th photo, you'll see how this is all inscribed with symbolic meanings as well & is just as pretty as the front! The hands stand for friendship, healing, giving & so on, while the butterfly represents transformations, new beginnings. Then you have the Sun symbol to the left of the butterfly, the "journey of life' & rain clouds at the top..The design is outlined with a channel mosaic inlaid pattern that alternates between yellow mother of pearl & black jet.

The pendant comes off the leather,so If you'd like to change out the leather for maybe a strand of sterling beads or a small millimeter turquoise beaded necklace, this could be done.Just be aware however that the sterling wire bale has about a 8 mm opening & a 7 mm sterling beaded necklace (or smaller) fits perfectly being that the pendant can still 'move & breath' on the strand & is not so snug.(I will be listing a 7 mm-20" sterling bead necklace,so watch out for that & if you would like me to shoot a photo of the pendant on the sterling beads, let me know!)

It's a very casual Puebloan piece that will compliment a casual southwestern look! This will look great with some ripped denim & boots & would make a great gift for ANY age, male or female!
