Making a perfect strand of hand cut beads,takes skill & is a time consuming process & to tell how skilled the artist is at doing this type of work is for 1) you can see it & 2nd) you want to be able to run your fingers down the strand which should be smooth,without having "bumpy/ridges"..This is a sign of skilled cutter.Anything made by Ronald will have these qualities.

DESCRIPTION:

Totally made by hand,Ronald starts the process from the whole cut of rock,that are then hand cut into squares, so they can then be rounded off into disk beads.Each are then hand drilled..The necklace is perfectly graduated is made with a soft,almost pastel colored blue color of Kingman turquoise that goes from a larger 11.5 mm bead center to a tiny 3 mm bead at the closure.

This is one of the oldest forms of Pueblo jewelry & is as traditional as it gets! It will look as good on a man, as it will a woman,as well as any age group! (Teen to adult!)

Wear it as is,but would also work is if you have a pendant with a large enough bale that would fit through the largest bead..(11.5 mm)

**Kewa Pueblo jewelry is the only time I accept carrying stabilized or treated turquoise.There is a lot of waste when Pueblo artists go to cut & they need the 'hardness' (Stabilized) in order to cut.With all the waste that takes place from cutting,it also would be EXTREMELY expensive to use natural,untreated turquoise**!!

TAKE NOTE:

Many people call this type of necklace a "Heishi' necklace,when it is not..To the Pueblo people,the ONLY time it's a 'heishi' necklace is when it's made of Shell(Shell is what the word "heishi' means) Anything other than shell are called"Beads"..So this type of necklace to the Kewa Pueblo is considered a "Turquoise Beaded Necklace" & NOT a heishi necklace..Yes they are very similar in look,but to the Kewa,they mean 2 separate things**
