Having worked closely with Federico for quite some time now, I can confidently say there’s very little in the way of materials that he hasn’t experimented with or doesn’t skillfully incorporate in his work. He is an artist who genuinely enjoys pushing beyond the conventional and ordinary boundaries, all while effortlessly blending an impressive array of diverse materials in his distinctive designs. Federico moves with ease from using luminous baroque pearls to genuine citrine and amethyst, from the deep richness of black onyx to the captivating iridescence of abalone shell. His creations also beautifully feature vintage crystals, high-quality turquoise, exquisite Italian coral, deep berry-hued garnets, vibrant peridot, and so much more—the list truly feels endless! Hand picked with utmost care for these elegantly huge earrings is an almost unheard-of combination of materials that remarkably pair together, creating the perfect marriage of natural beauty! Only the finest of all the Abalone shells you’ll ever get your hands on is used here — the most vibrant New Zealand “Paua” abalone shell available. Unlike the more common types, the Paua abalone stands out dramatically because it is hundreds of times more intense and vibrant in color! THE WEIGHT:
These are no lightweight earrings and weigh just UNDER 4 OUNCES combined!!!! (See weights below.) So without question, these definitely needed to be made into a clip-on style for better support and comfort. I do want to mention that Federico is well known for his generous portions in both metal and materials, resulting in substantial, weighty jewelry. I personally own or have stocked some pretty heavy clip-on earrings by him, and I find that because of their considerable weight and especially if your lobes are thin, they tend to want to slip a bit from the ear, regardless of how tight the clip is adjusted. To solve this issue and prevent any slippage, my “go-to” solution is to roll a small piece of transparent tape to make it double-sided, then place it at the top of the clip before wearing the earrings. (When the tape is doubled., one side it sticks to the base of the sterling, while the other sticky side goes against the ear) This simple trick significantly improves the grip and ensures they stay securely in place all day long!
