These are traditional Oaxaca “Arracada” earrings, a classic style that is signature to Federico’s birthplace of Oaxaca, Mexico.

Made for Federico by one of his highly skilled Oaxaca artisan friends, these earrings reflect the many years the artisan has devoted to perfecting the art of filigree. Because of the time and patient precision involved in filigree work, it sadly seems to be becoming a vanishing art in today’s fast-moving marketplace. It’s clear these were made by a true master filigree artist who understands the deeper “whys” behind every delicate twist and solder, and who brings both experience and intention to each piece. The result is jewelry made with pristine workmanship and enduring artistry.

Not only is the form absolutely perfect, but when you consider that each curvature of the wire must be perfectly rounded and every wire must create the same-sized circular forms, you begin to understand the precision involved — otherwise the circular pattern will not present itself well and the piece must, essentially, be discarded. It’s not that the artist approach this with a rigidly mathematical mind; rather, executing filigree at such an extremely small, miniature scale is exceptionally challenging. This tiny size is something you cannot help but deeply appreciate. I honestly don’t know how they achieve such consistent, incredible workmanship, but somehow they do.

They are richly oxidized & have little pearl accents that give them this sweet feminine touch! These would be a great 1st earring for any toddler or an adult woman who loves an understated look & doesn’t want to feel any sort of weight whatsoever on her ears!
