EARRING PROVENANCE:
For those of you who may not know, Federico is not only one of our most recognized named artists in the industry, (see my Federico collection), but he is also a lifelong collector of legendary period pieces. Being extremely proud of what his birthplace of Mexico produced, his holdings span a remarkable range — from Mesoamerican Pre-Colombian artifacts, to jewelry and objects from 19th-century Mexico, Colonial-era pieces, treasures from the Mexican Silver Renaissance days {With the focus on Taxco and Mexico City} and very old Native American artifacts, plus more..

Many of these historical items are displayed in his own museum in Oaxaca, which is called the “Museo Belber-Jimenez”, which bears the names of both Federico and his late wife, Ellen. These earrings here, came directly from that museum and are drawn from his personal gold jewelry collection there.

A HISTORICAL FACT:

Goldsmiths living and working around the Turn of the Century designed jewelry entirely by hand and took painstaking care to ensure each piece was finished to the highest standard for the wearer. The jewelry people wore served as a clear symbol of status and personal style. Financial standing at that time was judged not only by the size of one’s house but also by the quality of clothing, the jewelry owned, and the materials used in those pieces —{I.E. gold, silver, diamonds, and other precious gemstones} The scale and richness of the jewelry likewise signaled wealth and social rank. Since these pieces were designed in gold, silver, and diamonds, the original owner was almost certainly affluent and would have been regarded as refined and belonging to a higher class in society.

THE EARRINGS:
Oozing an historical Oaxaca sophistication and quiet elegance, these are beautifully made earrings. Each earring is designed with 33 rose-cut diamonds that feature a “primitive” like cut and an open back to allow light to pass through (see backside photo). They are slightly faceted, so with movement they release a beautiful sparkle.

Set in a darkened, antique-finished silver front, the jump ring connections and the lever-back ear mechanisms are however, made in solid 14k gold. The backside looks to be a gold wash?

Wherever there is gold in the earring,I had those parts of the earring professionally tested for purity, which came up positive for 14k. The diamonds are tested as well with the red light on the diamond tester reading red in all 4 bars of the tester.(4 red bars is the highest it goes)

Based on their measurements as well as for the amount of materials used, allows these to be nice & wearable that you may not even know you have them on!
