Circa 1970's-Vintage Native American-3 Tier Teal Turquoise Cluster-Classically Designed Sterling Earrings-with Hand Hammered Flattened Dangles-3-1/8"
PROVENANCE:
These came through my store by a woman who inherited all her mothers vintage Native & vintage Mexican jewelry. She thought is was a time for a change, since she didn't wear these enough & thought maybe someone else would get more wear.
THE EARRINGS:
These are made in a timeless tiered cluster earring style. It’s a look that never grows tiresome and remains a favored design many artisans have preserved long after the time period when these earrings were made. While cluster work often brings the Zuni Pueblo to mind, these particular earrings are in fact Navajo made.
They’re designed with rich teal-green turquoise that appears to come from the same mine. The stones were carefully selected for their consistent coloring and absence of matrix, and the cuts were chosen to highlight those qualities. Over time some cuts have deepened to a darker green, enhancing their character and lending them a beautiful, well-worn vintage aesthetic.
What I love about these is the obvious hand-wrought look they have, which shows in several details: one is the old-style connections where a jump ring was soldered to the back of the base and then another jump ring was used as the actual connection. These days many artists tend to solder the connection directly to the very bottom of the base (see last photo). I also appreciate the hand-stamped scalloped borders that sit on the north and south ends of each tier, and the sharp looking, flattened dangles that finalize and give crisp definition to the overall design.
They are classic, traditional, and timelessly designed earrings that will never go out of style, no matter how jewelry trends evolve or how far design moves forward. At about 3-1/8” in length, they still maintain a very wearable weight.

PLEASE READ BEFORE PURCHASING:
*****I do not consider myself a 'professional photographer" but I do try to give you photos that are 'realistic in color.. Please understand that all screen monitors are different, so the materials can look brighter (or duller) ,more intense or less intense from one computer/phone to the next.
In order to give you close up photos so I can provide you with all the detail, the photos can tend to make the item look much more larger & everything is more magnified & exaggerated than in actuality. When you get them in hand, you do not notice as much, as what looks more extreme in the photos. So to get an accurate idea of how big these are, please either check them out being worn to get a rough idea (photos) or you can pull out a tape measure & compare to my given measurements.
