EARRING PROVENANCE:
For those of you that don't know,Federico is not only one of our top present day artists, (see my Federico collection) but many of you don't know the legendary collection of period pieces he has collected since a young man that go as far back to the Pre-Colombian era,to Mexico 1800's & up with the focus on Colonial jewelry,to the Mexican Silver Renassance Days from Taxco/Mexico City,to very old Native American artifacts. Many are displayed in his Mueseum in Oaxaca that bare he & his wife Ellen's name. These came from his Museum & come from his collection of gold Colonial era jewelry.

THE EARRINGS:
Back in the time these were made, status was determined not only in the clothing one wore,or the house you lived in,the education you recieved, but in the jewelry that was worn.So for a woman to own & wear diamonds & gold, she would have been considered "refined" & in a higher class in society.

Oozing Oaxaca sophistication & elegance, these are well designed, as well as being a well made earring. They are made in a floral dangle pattern & unlike how we normally see a prongs holding a gem in,these are made where the prongs for the diamonds are apart of the design. The diamonds have an unusual facet to them that's made in a 3 sectional facet. Imagine if you took a pie & cut the whole pie into 3 equal portions, that is how these are cut.All the diamonds sit atop of a gold backing (See last photo) & under each, has been cut for maximum light to come through.

The earrings are made in rose gold (Jump rings, ear wires, backside) whereas the silver colored floral front side is white gold. They statred using white gold in the 20's at the same time these were made. The whole earring tests positive for gold & the diamonds are tested as well with the red light on the diamond tester reading red in all 4 bars of the tester.(4 red bars is the highest it goes)

They give off a nice sparkle as they hit the light & based on the size & the amount & size of the materials, makes these nice & wearable that you may not even know you have them on!They have an undeniable Spanish/Mexican look & can be worn with many types of attire.Of course,a Mexican textile wardrobe is always the best, but definitely not limited to!

Would make a fabulous gift!
