FEDERICO JIMENEZ- "El Jardin"- Hand Sewn CORAL Beaded Garlands- Traditional Oaxaca Colonial- 925 Filigree Earring

$550.00

ABOUT FILIGREE:

Filigree is an technical art form that dates centuries back, where the influential factors came from the Moors,Spain & France. When the Spanish came into Mexico during the Colonial period, they brought with them all their jewelry designs that ended up being a mainstay throughout Mexico & are still a very traditional art form in Oaxaca,as well as throughout some parts of Mexico.

Unfortunately however, this art has somewhat dwindled down some from what it use to be,since it is such a time consuming technique & artists aren't getting the appreciation, nor the money for all their time, passion & efforts..So,so many have given up.It is a real art, that needs to appreciated, especially if it is done properly.

THE EARRINGS:

Very Colonial in style, these are called the "EL JARDIN" (The Garden) & are one of Oaxaca's 5 most popularly made earrings that are known for the "Bow" in the design & are the most elaborate out of the 5 & are also the closest in style that came out of the 18th century..This style is also very intricate in workmanship.

These are made in a 3-tier style that contributes to their just over 3" length..I am a huge fan of this style of Oaxaca earring & especially when they're filled with an abundance of beads, which give them such a beautiful & traditional presence..These have the perfect balance between metal & coral beads.

It's in the 2nd tier where a lot of the design happens, since there are a total of 6 little flowers that are used for accents & really give a sweet addition to the overall design.(see photos) That is the one difference in these, compared to other Jardin earrings..You normally don't get all those little flowers like you have with these & that is what helps to make these appear more ornate. You can see all the work in these that are shown in the photos that validates the "hand made factor"! They are very wearable in weight, while offering a fantastic look!!!

*****Please Note: With filigree, you are not paying for the weight of the silver nor the materials, but rather the time!!*****

I ALSO CARRY THESE IN PEARLS & IN TURQUOISE (SEE LAST PHOTOS-Sorry SOLD )THEY ARE UNDER ’WOMAN’S JEWELRY THEN CLICK ON THE EARRINGS 3’ DROP DOWN
