Sterling is 92.5 parts silver & 7.5% copper which is added for strength.Pure/Fine silver  has no other metal alloys,so it is softer.The advantages by using pure is for one thing, the quality of the metal, & two,it doesn't tarnish nor get those ugly yellow tones like sterling,so you don't have to polish.. When it ages,it gets a warm patination & really ages beautifully!
