Normally when we think of Zuni Puebloan artist Vivianita Booqua, we picture her impeccable flush inlay work — the way she meticulously cuts each stone so it fits like a glove in its bezel and lies perfectly flushed with the bezel’s height. These particular earrings, however, were created differently from her usual pieces. Instead of her signature flush settings, she employed Malachite cabochons set in serrated bezels, which is notable because Malachite is seldom used as the primary focal stone in Zuni jewelry and is more commonly seen as an accent.

Contemporary in style and made with a light-gauge, wearable sterling, the pair features an elongated design that incorporates round cuts into the hoops and two different-sized teardrop cuts for the dangles. Several stones display the deep, swirled dark green typical of Malachite, while others show having a mix of lighter, lime-ish tones that provides a subtle contrast throughout the composition. These may be on the longer side, but your lobes will love the comfortable light weight!
