ABOUT THE ZUNI PUEBLO CORN MAIDEN:
Corn is one of the most sacred plants known to Native American cultures on both continents, North and South America, where this staple has been a main food source for the native communities since time unknown. The Corn Maidens play a special role, symbolizing the prayers of the people for a bountiful harvest. The Corn Maidens of Zuni personify the bounty of life giving corn that grows in six different colors & in Zuni tradition, long ago Corn-Maidens saved the Zunis from famine and drought by nourishing them with sacred corn kernels from their bodies.

There are 3 Maidens: The young unmarried woman who will have whorls of hair on the side of her head, signifying that she has not had a child. The mother fetish also can be emerging from the corn (the corn mother) and she will have children with her or look pregnant. The grandmother usually has a shawl over her head and no corn represented on her body.

THE EARRINGS:
Though the "Corn Maiden" is known more to the Puebloan people, Navajo artisan "Allison Manuelito" gets her inspiration from her close Zuni Pueblo neighbors.
These Maiden's are delicately cast in a wearable art form, where they are shown with their hair whorls, their manta shawl that cover their corn kernel bodies to keep warm.
They are small & super wearable in weight, while still being big enough to show off your love for the Native culture. They'll make a great 'go-to' earring that can be worn with an all sterling collection or one of colored stone!

**Normally I take a photo showing how the earrings look when they're on & for some reason I must have missed these! So if you need to see them on, please email me & I would be happy to provide one! **

**To give you close ups, pictures tend to look much more larger & much more more magnified than in actuality. Close up's make the item look so large & then you get it in hand & you are shocked since the item is much smaller than how they looked in the photos..So to get an accurate idea of how big these are, you can pull out a tape measure & compare to my given measurements.
