Kewa Puebloan Artist - WARREN NIETO -Turquoise Mosaic Inlay "APOCALYPTO" Inspired - Maya Style Earrings- Hand Made Tubular / Tapered Cone Dangles! 3.25"

$495.00

When the thought of recreating some of the most incredible mosaic style turquoise jewelry that was worn in the Mel Gibson movie "APOCALYPTO" came to mind, there was no other mosaic artist I knew I could count on to know they'd be done right, than by my dear friend from the Kewa Pueblo "WARREN NIETO".. I am honored to have such an artist as Warren who immediately knew what I was talking about & he couldn't have made a more STUNNING looking earring by giving us the best jewelry from 2 separate cultures!!

For those of you who don't know, there are 2 similar things that the ancient Mayans & the Santo Domingo Pueblo have in common & that's for the fact that both used/use turquoise & both did/do excellent mosaic work, which as you can see, came effortless for Warren to do! So these are Kewa Pueblo made, but with a “Royal Mayan” edginess!

Being the true artist he is without copying others, it wasn't about doing them the same exact way, but rather giving you the "Style".. If you've seen the movie, you can see this style earring being worn by the Mayan leader, when the innocent group of people were captured, painted blue & then brought to the alter, only to be beheaded & offered as a sacrifice..

Everything about these are made by hand, with each little rectangular cut that is mosaic inlaid inside the trapezoid shaped top, to the round cut of orange spiny oyster that sits in the center, to the hand sculpted spiny oyster beads at the bottom! But it's not just all the time Warren put in to do the tops, BUT the tubular-cone shaped dangles were made by taking from a larger cut of turquoise & then one by one, making them into a tubular-tapered cone type dangle..

The dangles are anchored by way of waxed string which also give these a ancient Ancestral Puebloan feel, where if you zoom in on photo 6, you will see how the dangles are connected to the top with waxed string..This style was used by the Anasazi in the Chaco Canyon region before modern day sterling jump rings were used & which come from the time period around 900-1300 AD!!

These are made EXCLUSIVELY for my store & guaranteed you won't be able to get them, nor buy them from another seller!

Please Note:
In order to give you close up photos so I can provide you with all the detail, photos can tend to make the item look much more larger & everything is more magnified than in actuality. Close up's make the item look so large & then you get it in hand & you are shocked since the item is much smaller than how they looked in the photos..So to get an accurate idea of how big these are, please either check them out being worn to get a rough idea (photo 2) or you can pull out a tape measure & compare to my given measurements

I do not consider myself a 'professional photographer" but I do try to give you photos that are 'realistic" in color, so you're not shocked, nor disappointed when you get the piece. Monitor screens vary in color,so please take this into consideration.
