Navajo Artisan "MARY MATT" -Premium 49 Stone Mediterranean Coral Cluster -Sterling Cuff- For Large 6-7/8" Wrist-Just under 5" Width!! -Wow Wow!!

$3,995.00

This colossal size cuff was designed & made by the late great Navajo artisan "MARY MATT" ( 1924-2009) Not much is known about her, except for the fact that she designed traditional Navajo jewelry & worked for many years at Atkinson Trading company who owned the Cameron Trading Post.

THE CUFF:

Everything about this is on the generous side, from the whopping width size, to the amount AND the size of the coral, to the weight!! There are 49 large size cuts of precious coral in this which are what help to dictate it's just under 5" width size.. Although to the eye, all you see is this massive amount of coral, there are actually 2 size cuts in this.

Following the outline of the perimeter are well matched skinnier, but longer cuts, whereas in the interior, are fatter, but shorter cuts.(See photos & coral size below) One thing I have to admit, is how well the color from one to another match so well! Anyone who loves or works with Coral, knows how the color of coral can vary, but these were so well picked with an impressive, skilled eye! I would call these a red, red color. (As opposed to orange red or blue red) Hand made little conchos separate each cut of coral & all the cuts sit in their hand sawed serrated bezels.

The coral sits atop of thick gauge oxidized sterling sheet, that then is placed atop of a 5 split shank to accommodate the wide width of the cuff..The shank is made with heavy gauge 1/2 triangular wire,1/2 round wire & one twisted wire in the center.Long hand made sterling leaves sit outside the coral face.

This is made for a large wrist that's "fleshier", where you need a wider gap opening. .Please click on the link below on "How to Fit a Cuff" if you're not sure if this will fit, or you can contact me so I can guide you.

FYI:
Anyone in this business knows how much the price of Coral has climbed to & has gotten so ridiculously expensive, which makes it unaffordable for many artists to even consider buying. Coral is now on the "Rare" list & no longer can it be fished, nor brought in the USA. Everyday the price goes up & like real estate, it will never be the price tomorrow, as it is today.
