ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Presently living in LA, Calif., Mario Romero originally came from El Salvador and has worked side by side with Federico Jimenez for many decades. Mario embraces a more contemporary approach to design and specializes in large dove motifs as well as Sacred Heart jewelry. As a superb artisan, everything Mario creates is hand-made by his skilled hands, so you can be assured each piece bears his direct workmanship. His work is precise and very well executed, reflecting a devotion to detail. While he mainly follows Federico’s signature "Statement" aesthetics, Mario maintains an identifiable, personal style that distinguishes his pieces.
DESCRIPTION:
Being a devoted admirer of Spanish Colonial art, I never pass up the chance to own this design whenever it becomes available. I’ve featured this Spanish Colonial angel image in several forms over the years — in a cuff, as a pin, and currently set in a necklace (see last photo; listed under the Necklace category). This particular depiction reflects the bulto (statue) style practiced centuries ago in Europe, especially in Spain, capturing the historic workmanship and devotional character of that tradition.
The matte-oxidized finished sterling angel is beautifully designed with perfectly combed coiffured hair, and what at first glance appears to be clothing or a collar beneath the face is actually the angel’s wings. The detailing gives the impression that the image was originally sketched or painted, lending the piece an artful, almost hand-rendered quality.
Made for man OR woman, this was made through the collaboration of both Mario and Federico, where the bracelet was made when Mario adapted Federico’s Angel motif and incorporated the design onto a wide, tapered leather cuff that Mario cut and shaped by hand.

The leather will soften beautifully over time with wear, as the oils from your skin get into the leather!
