ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Delbert's work commands a higher price than most, and it's easy to see why. Widely regarded as a veteran "Master Navajo Artist," he has made incredible jewelry now for literally decades and has been instrumental in shaping the careers of many, including his nephew Derrick Gordon whose work now has reached a wider audience, as well as numerous traditional Navajo Gallup jewelers active in the industry today. Delbert is the 'go-to" guy & the one they look up to when they need technique/inspiration.

Personally speaking, Delbert's work is beyond extraordinary and remains firmly anchored in his Navajo roots, staying undeniably traditional so you never have to question his tribal affiliation. He ranks high on my list of true personal favorites, because for him it's not just about making a ring or a cuff — it's about transforming each piece into a true work of art. He is an artist who avoids "plain" designs, but instead becoming known for his layering ‘upon layering’ by hand making embellished appliqués that give every creation depth, character and identity.

He’s an "old school" artist, meaning he refuses to buy commercially made or prefabricated parts; instead he follows the methods of his ancestors, making every single component from scratch that goes into his intricate metalwork. He draws inspiration from the stamped patterns of the old masters, believing that careful, skilled stamping is what helps a piece truly stand out while bringing the metal to its fullest level of beauty and character.

SIZING:

Because of the tapered shank, these ‘cigar band’ type rings measure differently when put on the ring mandrel. If you zoom in on photos 8 & 9, you’ll see that the face of the ring measures differently on the mandrel (14-3/4-close to a 15) than when it’s flipped & measured on the tapered underside of the mandrel. (14-1/4) Personally, I feel you should wear a ring size in between the 2 sizes which would be about a 14-1/2 or so, so this is what this will be listed as. This is only my opinion, but the final decision will be your call!

PRICING IS BASED ON: Not only have prices greatly increased at nearly every place I shop, but the cost of what artists are now having to pay for sterling has sky rocketed in price. Factored also into the price for this, is mainly Delbert’s name and the dues he’s paid behind his decades old reputation in the industry, Also included is the need to compensate Delbert for the time and expertise required to make the ring! Sadly to say, this was made after the price of sterling had gone up.
