TURQUOISE PROVENANCE :

This ring is another one that’s made with “Top Tier” select cuts that came from the renowned Larry Cooley collection. When Larry passed away awhile back, Federico had the unique opportunity to purchase Larry’s entire collection, which Larry had been carefully assembling and refining over several decades. Turquoise connoisseurs, designers, vendors, lapidarians—you name it—everyone fiercely coveted his collection. However, thanks to Federico’s close, longstanding relationship with Larry and his family, he was able to acquire the entire collection, albeit at a considerable price. This high cost reflects the superior quality of Larry’s turquoise and the unfortunate reality that most of the mines where this turquoise originated are now depleted.

Larry was known for carrying only THE best turquoise, characterized by its exceptional hardness—a key indicator of “quality” in turquoise—meaning his stones did not require any treatments in order for the lapidarian to cut them.. Nowadays, some of the rarest turquoise cuts he owned simply can’t be found on the market, and when or if they do appear, they command extraordinarily high prices per carat. So when this turquoise supply is finally used up, it will truly be gone forever. Each and every item designed with his turquoise is literally “One of a Kind,” making every piece a singular treasure with history, provenance, and unmatched natural beauty.

THE BLUE GEM MINE:

For those unfamiliar, the Blue Gem mine was only active until the 1970s, and this stone was the turquoise of choice for many artists creating jewelry in that era. Sadly, you very rarely find these harder, high-quality cuts today unless the cuts themselves are vintage, as these are. What makes this mine so notable is that, unlike most turquoise which is soft or chalky and often requires artificial stabilization for a lapidarian to cut, an unusually high percentage of Blue Gem turquoise occurred as hard, natural, gem-quality material. .

Designed with the turquoise “connoisseur and discerning collector” in mind, this ring is created for those who seek only the very finest turquoise available. And those who are ‘educated’ in turquoise, know the beauty & quality that the Blue Gem mine produced. The turquoise found in this particular mine is some of the highest quality turquoise found in Nevada.

Since this turquoise cannot be replaced, each and every item designed with Larry’s turquoise makes each piece “One of a Kind,” making every one of them a singular heirloom treasure with history, provenance, and unmatched natural beauty.

THE RING:

This ring is another “Crème de la Crème” turquoise ring that I am absolutely thrilled to offer! (See what is posted so far) Designed in a very funky “Abstract” form, I truly believe that even someone who isn’t well versed in turquoise and their qualities, colors, and varieties, etc. would immediately notice what makes this turquoise stand out when you compare it to and put it side by side to what you’re seeing on the market! You can’t imagine how fortunate I feel to be able to offer this superior, exceptional-quality turquoise, which is also considered on the rare, side since you just can’t find it anymore!

Made with a fabulous elongated rectangular cut of Royston turquoise at the center, the ring is artistically created with an array of variously sized square and rectangular cuts of teal-blue Blue Gem that creatively surround and accentuate the focal stone. Based on each cut being literally one of a kind, the contrast in color is truly mesmerizing!

THE ADJUSTABLE BYPASS SHANK:
This is presently set at a size 9.25. If you look at the last photo, you will see that the shank is made of a tapered strip of sheet sterling that curls around & is made of heavy gauge sterling. With barely any room to go down, this was designed to actually increase in size. So if you need me to stretch it for you, I can do that as long as you let me know at time of purchase. I can bring it up to no more than a a size or so.

A NOTE:**In this business, you pay for what you get. And just like with any other gemstone, there are 'grades' with some being low grade which are less expensive, while others are high grade and are more expensive.. Turquoise is the same, with the cost being higher for 'natural turquoise' and especially when you have a high/excellent grade. The latter, adds to the value. I always say "look at the price" & that should give you some clue as to how good something is, especially in jewelry.

I do want to mention that when I was getting this up to post, I happened to notice a minor surface crack in one of the stones. (top right-2nd stone in) My guess is that it may have happened in traveling to one of their shows? The stone is not loose & is in there secure. If this will bother you, I suggest you choose something else.

In order to give you close up photos so I can provide you with all the detail, can tend to make the item look gigantic & everything is more magnified than in actuality.. Little things that come up in photos that look like “Flaws”, generally have to be pointed out once it’s in hand, since close up photos make everything appear more exaggerated.
