THE MEZCALA PEOPLE:
From the mountainous region of Guerrero in modern-day Mexico, the Mezcala culture is famous for its prolific production of stone sculpture, which includes human figures, animal effigies and architectural models, with many dating as far back from 300-100 BC. Little is known about this ancient civilization, other than that it chose to bury its dead with these abstract, esoteric stone carvings, and that it was the only one of the Mesoamerican civilizations to have been so focused on architecture.

FEDERICO & THE STONE FIGURE:
Besides having decorated many of us with his various phenomenal styles of jewelry, many however don't know, but Federico's background is actually in antiquities which started all the way back to when he was a child..You might say that this is one reason he opened his own museum in Oaxaca & that's to show the public all beautiful & historical art forms that filled the country he's so proud of. Intrigued with history, he went on to learn all about these ancient art forms that were flourishing throughout Mexico, where some go as far back to the "BC" period of time & there's not much you can't ask him, that he can't tell you about.

This historical figural Mezcala stone ring happens to sit high on the chain of interests for Federico & it dates centuries back. And while the stone is extremely old, the ring itself is newly made. The figure is sculpted from a very dense stone & is a deep deep green & looks almost to be Jade(?) For a ring, the figure is large in size, (2-3/8") but in comparison to other Mezcala stone sculptures, which some can be on the larger side, I personally would say it is small.

The stone sits in a high bezel & the sterling is finished in a contemporary/mirror polished finishing. The shank is adjustable & the part of the shank that has his hallmark, (See last photo) is not soldered to the base, so it can go a tad bigger if needed.

PLEASE READ BEFORE PURCHASING:
In order to give you close up photos so I can provide you with all the detail, photos can tend to make the item look much more larger & everything is more magnified than in actuality. So to get an accurate idea of how big this is, please zoom in on the photos where you can see it on the finger or you can do is pull out a tape measure & compare to my given measurements.. I am not a professional photographer, but I do try to do my best at giving you accuracy in color.
