SALE IS FOR THE NECKLACE ONLY-THE MATCHING BRACELET IN THE LAST 3 PHOTOS IS LISTED UNDER THE ‘BRACELET’ CATEGORY!

NECKLACE PROVENANCE:

Originally purchased by Dr. Consuelo Ayala near Garland, TX. Consuelo grew up in El Paso, TX, where her parents ran an in-house printing press and instilled a strong work ethic. She loved dancing with Ballet Folklórico but she always dreamed of becoming a pediatrician or family doctor. While pursuing her path to medical school, she spent many summers working as a guide at Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming and at the Grand Canyon, gaining a deep appreciation for nature and diverse communities.

She happened to be a psychiatrist within the Texas mental wellness system. During her years of study she developed Friedreich’s ataxia, a progressive condition with symptoms similar to multiple sclerosis. As her health gradually deteriorated she moved away from general medicine and focused on psychiatry, determined to use her medical knowledge and talents despite the growing physical challenges. Eventually confined to a wheelchair, she continued to drive an adapted van fitted for her needs and remained active in serving the community until her death in 2019. She persevered through great difficulty, built a wonderful career, and helped countless patients. She worked harder than most, all while caring for her aging mother, and seldom took time to reward herself.

After receiving an award, she discovered this 14k gold and diamond slide necklace and the matching bracelet in “JALIN JEWELERS” window near Garland, TX in 1999 and finally did something nice for herself by splurging on this exquisite gold duo. She carefully saved every dollar for months to buy them and treated the purchase as a well-earned celebration of her achievement.

Sadly, her life was cut short, and she never had the chance to fully enjoy wearing them for nearly as long as she had hoped. That’s when her niece, who lives here in Santa Fe, brought the pieces to me.

THE DIAMOND/GOLD NECKLACE:

This necklace is what’s called a “Flat Omega” and is elegantly designed in 14k solid gold and sits high enough that immediately draws the eye to the neckline. This necklace is wider than many omegas you may come across, since it features a substantial 10 mm (3/8”) width — and together with its thicker gauge & this 10 mm width, is what contributes to its hefty 2.7 ounce bold, substantial presence..

The Figure 8-14k diamond slide moves freely along the omega, but it is not removable — the bead that the locking clasp fits over to secure the necklace, makes that portion just a tad wider than the slide, so the slide cannot come off.

The difference in this Omega necklace versus others you may find is the exceptional versatility it offers! Because it includes a 2.25” long extender, the necklace can be adjusted to suit your personal preferences with ease. Wear it at the shorter 16” length for a closer fit, or add the extender and let it fall to approximately 18.25” for a slightly longer look. (Measurements are approximate, since the necklace is curved and does not lie perfectly horizontal.)

The push in–pull out clasps on both the necklace and its extender have an actual patent (# 5309616 for the Jewelry Clasp) and were invented by a man named Donald J. Sobin;(See photos) The patent was published in 1994, which indicates the necklace was likely made sometime after 1994 (or possibly 1995) and before 1999, when Consuelo purchased it.

PLEASE READ:

Being that I am limited to testing diamonds & gold & can definitely tell a good diamond when I see one, I however must admit, that I am no way‍ ‍a diamond expert! So I took this to my jeweler repair man who works in precious gems-gold & sterling to rely on his expertise. He stated the diamonds look to be a G-SI2 & while SI2’s have inclusions, they are generally visible only under a 10x magnification, since many are "eye-clean." They are all round cuts that graduate in size and there’s approximately ¾ carats in diamonds I was told.

Also to let you know, when I received this, there were surface scratches on the gold. So to avoid the buyer from having to spend money to take the scratches out, he professionally buffed all the scratches out, so now both the necklace & bracelet really look great!! (The scratches were taken out AFTER I photographed the necklace and bracelet.)

Any inconsistent coloring and or colors in the necklace, comes from my photography lights and or colored items that picked up when it was being photographed & NOT in the metal.

Lastly, I want to mention that in my research, I found Omega’s for sale, but they didn’t have the wide 10 mm width that the necklace or bracelet have, NOR the weight that this particular necklace has!! I found many for example, without the diamond slide & were in the 1 ounce to 1.5 ounce range & were in the $8000 price range! This is just under 3 OUNCES!(See photos 7 & 8)
