ABOUT THE ‘PUEBLO DRAGONFLY”-DOUBLE BAR CROSS:

Also called the "Pueblo Cross"(or Double Bar) & is extremely old & much associated with the ancestral Isleta Pueblo of New Mexico.

This double bar cross goes back further than the times of when the Spaniards came into NM (1600's) & was said to originate from the Moors,but actually dates back to the Mimbres of New Mexico (C.1200 AD) where you can find this similar symbol in their pottery.Early Spanish priests,attributed the use of this cross to a miraculous encounter of the early Pueblos,with the Holy Spirit. On many,you will see a heart or a partial heart at the bottom,which is referred to the "Bleeding Heart & is associated with the Catholics "Sacred Heart".It is said to be used by Puebloans because it represented the generous heart of the dragonfly.

The Pueblo people found it resembled the dragonfly that is much associated with their culture,that so many started incorporating this symbol in their jewelry,especially before the turn of the century.

THE NECKLACE:

One thing that this necklace has is the wonderful & very undeniable look of New Mexico written all over it! Known for his "Old School" workmanship, this is made with Don's much sought after hand made bench beads & what I find so impressive about the design is how the 18 crosses are so in line & the bars of the crosses so even with the other,that they create a very even line on the exterior of the beads which seems to give it another design all together!! It's made in a Squash Blossom style where the crosses fit in between the beads.
