A LITTLE ABOUT BUDDY:

The late and very much in demand Santa Fe’an artist Buddy Lee Mossman was a remarkably talented artist who produced some of the most phenomenal work imaginable, where he never duplicated the same piece even once throughout his career. Buddy was akin to a painter, but in his case, it wasn’t his use of paints or a traditional canvas that captured his artistry; rather, it was the stunning designs he made in stone and metal. He gained a reputation for having his own unique style and an identifiable look, making it evident you would never have to second-guess whose work it was, when you encountered it.

Never did Buddy feel the need to copy from what other artists were doing, as he was blessed with a boundless reservoir of creative ideas that flowed continuously. His jewelry ranged from whimsical to abstract modern and even extended to exhibit a very “Picasso-esque” look in many of his pieces, all while maintaining a distinctive southwestern edginess that set him apart.

Buddy was often considered 'old school' in the jewelry he made, from conception to completion that was meticulously created by hand rather than relying on prefabricated components made by commercial manufacturers. When Buddy sat down at the drawing board, so to speak, he would first allow the stones to "speak and dictate" how and in what manner the artful piece they would adorn, would be designed.

Since Buddy’s passing, his extraordinary pieces have found their way into the hands of collectors, leaving a very limited number of his creations remaining in circulation today. Here in Santa Fe, Buddy left his mark and we will always miss this gentle man’s magnificent works of art and humble personality.
