Zuni Pueblo Award Winning Artisans-'RAYLAN & PATTY EDAAKIE'-Traditional Zuni Mosaic Inlay- Lapis- Italian Coral - Mother of Pearl -Versatile "Rain & Rain Cloud" Design Necklace & Earring Set
This traditionally made Zuni “Rain Cloud-Rain” set is made up of 3 pieces (necklace, pendant, earrings)
A PERSONAL WORD:
Regardless of being made in a delicate size and made from somewhat lightweight materials, this remarkably designed jewelry set speaks volumes about the impeccable and exceptional workmanship associated with the renowned Zuni Puebloan artists, "Raylan & Patty Edaakie." These talented artisans have received numerous prestigious awards for their outstanding artistry. The decade-long years of dedication, passion, and hard work they have invested can be clearly observed in each and every one of their exquisitely made pieces. Their jewelry not only reflects this husband/wife duo’s deep commitment to preserving the work of their ancestral roots, but also showcase their fine attention to detail, especially in the intricate mosaic inlay art for which they are celebrated.
THE NECKLACE:
I personally love jewelry sets that provides you with an array of options in terms of how you can wear it, and with that said, this beautiful set is incredibly versatile! It is thoughtfully designed with two strands of evenly size Lapis rondelle beads that serve as the focal point of the necklace that are then elegantly capped off with finely made sterling cones and beads.
Giving the necklace its additional appeal are four tubular pieces, each featuring a raised circular portion in the center of the tube. These sections are meticulously channel mosaic inlaid with the very same materials found in the pendant and earrings, creating a harmonious and cohesive design that enhances the overall elegance of the piece & helps to pull the entire design together.
From the cones to the closure, there is approximately 6 inches of handmade link chain that was carefully made, while giving it some ‘old school’ appeal. This chain not only allows you to wear the necklace at its maximum length, but also functions as an extender, giving you the freedom to place the hook anywhere along the chain! However, please keep in mind that if you choose to wear it shorter, the excess chain will extend along your backside.
If you take a closer look at photos, you will notice that the necklace can be worn simply as it is with the pendant, but can be worn without the pendant by easily removing it, or you could even add another pendant of yours to enhance the look! (If you opt for the latter, just be sure that the bale of your additional pendant is large enough to slide through the widest parts of the necklace.) You can also interchange the pendant with sterling beads or a necklace with all the same materials that are in the mosaic inlay work!! The bale opening on this pendant measures just under the 1/2” range (11 mm), so ideally, the bale opening of another pendant should be approximately in the 13 mm range in size to ensure a perfect fit.
THE REMOVEABLE PENDANT:
The removable pendant features an impressive length of 4-7/8” from the bale to the bottom and is designed with a unique cut-out design that vividly represents the essential elements of rain and rain clouds, which are crucial for the survival of the Zuni people. The bezel-set mosaic is expertly flush inlaid, and if you zoom in on the photos, you will notice the delicate slivers of lapis that symbolize the rain, while the intricate “Step” design, meticulously executed in mother of pearl, serves to represent the rain clouds. Additionally, the traditional Zuni “Sunface” is flush inlaid into the already flush inlaid mother of pearl, adding another layer of depth to the design. All the sterling is finished in a contemporary high polished finishing.
On both sides of the artwork, you will find a distinctive ‘Sunset” stamp, and just below this stamp, the cut-out design again highlights the theme of rain clouds (Please refer to photo 11 ). The cohesive design elements of the pendant beautifully coordinate with the patterns found in both the panels of the necklace and the accompanying earrings.
THE EARRINGS:
Made in a trapezoid shape with the same design and materials as the panels & the pendant, these very wearable earrings are THE perfect earring for the woman who loves Native American jewelry, (With the focus on Zuni) but can't wear the weight & size that many come with. Wear these with the set or with any jewelry you may have with the same materials!
Remember, with Zuni Pueblo jewelry, you are not paying for the weight, nor the materials ,but rather the time that artisans take to make their exquisite, time consuming designs !
