A PERSONAL WORD:

To experience the work of this husband & wife's team effort is to experience the meaning of what team work really is & the inspiration you get when you work well together by feeding off of the others ideas, etc. Married for years, both Delbert & Torevia started out making jewelry like most Puebloan children do and that is by living in a home with family members who make traditional jewelry day & night.. With this couple the work is dictated through communication, so while Torevia cuts,shapes,drills most all of the materials, it's Delbert who does all that beautiful finishing like beveling the stones, (e.g. the center Lapis cuts in each panel in this necklace) taking off the rough edges, etc., so that each is given a professionally finished look..

Torevia & Delbert are known for putting a real artsy vibe to their jewelry, where they create these powerful looking designs that literally explode with color, which is why their jewelry stands apart from the rest in the village..Yes, you'll find them doing the super traditional styles that are known to Kewa jewelry, but more times than not, you'll find them creating these extremely eye catching artsy pieces that stand out so much, to where all you can say is "WOW"! I personally feel it's not only the way they work with their colorful materials, but more so, it's their "Eye" for knowing how & where to then lay each cut that makes their work wonderful pieces of wearable art! They live quietly & comfortably in the village where they have their own farm & grow corn, raise cattle, sheep, pigs,you name it!!!

THE NECKLACE:

When Torevia brought this to me,I couldn't help but be overtaken by the obvious workmanship & love that was poured into making this necklace.. It is a work of art to say the least & it's always impressive to me to see a piece that is beyond impeccably made,where everything is cut by 'eye & feel' & without the use of calipers for exact measuring!! This would be what I would consider a "PERFECTLY MADE" necklace!

The necklace consists of 11 mosaic inlaid panels all together, where the 10 side panels have the same shape & size & the center stands apart due to it not only being larger, but for it's shape. The panels are beautifully laid out with a variety of different natural stones & shells, but while these panels are well highlighted in clear focus, the real "star of the show" however, are all those elegantly beveled cuts of dark blue Lapis that steal the spotlight as they sit raised above above the panel's base! To know these are NOT pre-bought cuts & are literally cut & shaped by the hands of Delbert, can leave you in disbelief! These cuts are better than anything we can find at jewelry supply houses! In between each panel are 3 strands of perfectly rounded 8 mm Lapis beads that act as the spacers & finalize the necklace.There is a 1.50" long heavy gauge extender chain if you want to drop it a tad longer..

If you're like me where you hate wearing something that everyone & their mother has, then this maybe a great call since it's a "One of a Kind" piece that can only be found here at my store!
