EARRING PROVENANCE:
These came from the personal collection of one of Santa Fe's most highly recognized Folk Art collectors.She had one of the best collections of Oaxaca jewelry & Taxco vintage that I think I've seen in one setting,with these coming from that collection.
THE EARRINGS:
Superbly made & traditional in style,these smaller size earrings have Oaxaca written all over them! Made with crystals that emulate Padparadscha sapphires,these vibrant red/orange faceted crystals are intense & have a color that just makes you want to melt! Using crystals is very much used in Oaxaca jewelry & have the same chemical make up of as the real deal,but for a price that won't break the bank!
What I find impressive is all the wonderful hand work from beginning to end..For example, if you zoom in on the photos & especially on photos 4,9,11, you will see this incredible bezel that looks like a 'crown' & the points of it, work as the prongs to hold the stone in...Another are, the well made leaves that are Dremel etched & are given texture through a technique called "Diamond Cutting".Diamond cutting gives the leaves their sparkle. The design is finalized with 3 fresh water pearl dangles with 2 pearls each per dangle.
These have to be some of the prettiest earrings & can be worn from a young girl to an adult woman..They are very wearable in weight & size! . If you appreciate the beautiful jewelry made by the hands of Oaxaca artisans,then these should not be passed up..Perfect when worn with,but not limited to,is a colorful-embroidered Mexican/Oaxaca wardrobe!
