EARRING PROVENANCE:
For those of you who may not know, Federico is not only one of our most recognized named artists in the industry (see my Federico collection), but he is also a lifelong collector of legendary period pieces. Deeply proud of the artistic legacy of his birthplace, Oaxaca Mexico, his holdings span a remarkable range — from Mesoamerican Pre-Columbian artifacts to jewelry and objects from 19th-century (and earlier) Mexico, Colonial-era masterpieces, a valuable & very large collection from the Mexican Silver Renaissance (with a special focus on Taxco and Mexico City), and very old Native American artifacts, among other rarities.

Many of these historical items are displayed in his own museum in Oaxaca, called the “Museo Belber-Jimenez”, which honors both Federico and his late wife, Ellen. These earrings came directly from that museum and are drawn from his personal gold jewelry collection there.

A HISTORICAL FACT:

Goldsmiths living and working around the Turn of the Century designed jewelry entirely by hand and took painstaking care to ensure each piece was finished to the highest standard for the wearer. The jewelry people wore served as a clear symbol of status and personal style. Financial standing at that time was judged not only by the size of one’s house, but also by the quality of clothing, the jewelry owned, and the materials used in those pieces —{I.E. gold, silver, diamonds, and other precious gemstones} The scale and richness of the jewelry likewise signaled wealth and social rank. Since these earrings were designed in gold, the original owner was almost certainly affluent and would have been regarded as refined and belonging to a higher class in society.

THE EARRINGS:

Intricately made in an understated 1-3/4” size that are the perfect length for everyday wear!

Anchored by an 18k solid gold ear wire, the drop was designed with 8 circular sections of the finest wire, each wrapped continuously to achieve their perfect, uniform form. This technique must be executed precisely—any deviation upsets the design and prevents the circles from holding their intended shape. That portion of the earring was professionally tested and confirmed to have a 10k gold purity.

In the center of these forms are beads even smaller than a pin head (a typical pin head measures about 1.5 mm to 2 mm) — these beads actually measure just 1.3 mm, they are THAT tiny! In fact, they are so small that after all the time I’ve had these, I only just noticed that two beads are missing when I was photographing them. Please note that close-up photos reveal every detail, which can make minor imperfections look much more pronounced than when you get them in hand. And personally speaking, I feel this is something that would have to be pointed out! (Please read “CONDITION” in the specifics) Each piece is finished with a delicate 14k bead dangle.

CLOSURE: Shepherds Hook with Safety Latch (These are a thicker gauge wire, so your ear holes have to have a little wear in them. If your ears are freshly pierced, they may be too thick for the ear.

MADE IN: Oaxaca, Mexico

CONDITION: These at least a 100 years old-They are in wearable condition. As I mentioned earlier, there are two 1.3 mm extremely tiny beads missing in the drop & on that same earring, there is a ding in the bead drop. These are priced accordingly for these reasons. (See photos, especially photos 7 & 8) Ear wires are in original shape and the latch is very secure.

All vintage sold "As Is". If there's any defects, they will be mentioned in the listing, as well in the 'specifics". These will be sent just like they are now, in working/wearable condition. And even though these are in very wearable condition & see nothing happening to them, the fact is however, that they are at LEAST 100 years old, so I exclude myself from responsibility if anything were to happen, whether 2 weeks from now or 2 years from now, since these are vintage & even though you may handle your jewelry with kid gloves, I still have no idea how anyone protects their jewelry..
