Federico Jimenez-Ultra Premium-Natural Polychrome Royston Turquoise-Free Form Shape Sterling CLIP ON Drop Earrings-2-7/8" (From Larry Cooley's Collection)
Known for it’s wonderful blue to green hues, these exquisitely hand picked cuts are from none other than the Royston mine.. And personally speaking, there is nothing less than beautiful, than when you have some high grade Royston in hand and experience their picturesque polychrome character.
They are designed in a 2-stone drop and the beauty in regards to this style, is for the fact that it puts the sole focus, not necessarily on the design, but on the material, where the stones don’t have to be struggling, only to be overtaken by any metal work. As a rule, many artists will do this classic/timeless style when they have some high quality stones that have either amazing color & or character and need to be brought to the forefront.
They’re made with “Free Form” cuts that are not meant to match in shape, but rather for their color & the mine from which they came from. The bottoms however are as closely matched in shape. (Please view all photos) . I do want to mention that if you may be bothered by this & are looking for ‘evenly matched shaped earrings, then these may not be right for you.. I do have many evenly sized earrings for you to choose from!! The overall shape is dictated by the shape of the stones.. These are some ‘hearty’ sized rocks that are chunky, which makes them that much more noticeable on the ear.
Because of their “classic” aesthetic. these earrings will never go out of style, no matter where we go with jewelry designs! They can be worn effortlessly from day to night, providing versatility for any occasion! You can pair them with a more elegant wardrobe for a night out or wear these for a casual luncheon!
A NOTE:**Premium quality turquoise is getting harder & harder to find these days & IF an artist does find it, they will have to pay top dollar, per carat, which then gets reflected in the retail price.. More & more, many of these mines are now closed down & or depleted, which only raises the price that much more & the more it becomes unavailable, the higher per carat each stone is. Anymore, on less expensive jewelry, many artists are now having to buy stabilized turquoise, which is generally a lower grade that’s ‘chalky’ & will break & crumble when the lapidarian goes to cut it,so they have to stabilize it in order to be able to cut it.But it’s nothing but a lower grade turquoise.
PRICE IS BASED ON: Artist name & recognition, turquoise quality, cost per carat for this quality, amount of carats, turquoise availability, sterling cost & artists time are all reflected in price. Anything made with Cooley turquoise will also demand a higher price due to rarity, quality & availability.
