ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Sadly to say, Leo passed away in Spring 2025. So unfortunately, unless you find someone who had some of his work in stock or pieces that are vintage, there will be no new jewelry made by him. I know his ultra-beautiful gemstone creations will truly be missed — he was a major figure in the industry with a distinct signature style, to where you never had to second-guess who had made the piece. His artistry, careful workmanship, and unmistakable designs left a lasting impression on collectors and fellow artists alike.

Years back, Leo once teamed with renowned southwestern artisan Don Lucas, but unfortunately the two went their separate ways years ago and pursued individual paths while still maintaining notable similarities in style. Both artists favored multi-colored stones arranged in clustered settings with a variety of shaped cuts, yet Leo distinguished himself by incorporating signature southwestern materials such as turquoise, spiny oyster, and coral, and then pairing those with the most magnificent, vibrantly colored faceted semi-precious gemstones. That combination gave each piece a more top‑notch, high‑end feel and an ultra‑glamorous look that pushed Southwestern jewelry beyond strictly traditional boundaries.

One thing I have always admired is Leo’s mastery of the color wheel — if you’re not familiar, he often placed two colors opposite each other of the wheel for maximum contrast and impact. These earrings are the perfect example, where he paired purple with lime greens (which green is partially yellow and which is opposite to purple on the color wheel). Regardless of trends, Leo had a remarkable eye for color and an instinct for knowing which hue to place next to another so the overall design would truly pop. Now more than ever, anything of Leo's will always be in demand & his jewelry is found in more higher end galleries/stores.

THE EARRINGS:

These earrings may be on the smaller, more wearable side, but they represent a case where the exceptional quality and beauty of the gemstones more than makes up for their modest size & overrides those factors..

They’re designed with the same striking color combination as the matching bracelet, necklace, and ring, but what sets these apart is the ‘Emerald cut” Peridot center, as well as the added southwestern edginess, where he enhanced the earrings by giving the tops a more distinctive southwestern-style look.

There are four different shaped cuts featured in the design: an oval, emerald, round, and teardrop-shaped cuts, each contributing to their own distinct silhouette, that promotes some visual interest.

PLEASE READ BEOFRE PURCHASING:

I do not consider myself a 'professional photographer" but I do try to give you photos that are 'realistic" in color. I do however, find photographing anything with 'yellow' in it, (oranges, greens) can come up a little more vivid than other colors, so please take this into consideration. Please go through all photos to see ANY variation.

In order to give you close up photos so I can provide you with all the fine detail, close up photos tend to make the item look GIGANTIC & everything is more magnified than in actuality. I want to mention that I always show how the item on the body & so until I get a photo of these on the ear, what you can do to get an accurate idea of how big these are, is you can do is pull out a tape measure & measure 2” down from the ear to see how long that measurement goes on you. If you need a photo before I get around to photographing them on the ear, please email me
