ABOUT #8 TURQUOISE:

The #8 mine officially closed to turquoise extraction back in 1976 & is now used strictly for gold mining. Because of this, #8 is considered “ultra rare” & these vintage stones are highly collectible.

This highly prized mine's color can range from light blue to pale aqua, minty green tones, and soft powder blues. But with this mine it's less about the hue and more about the distinctive matrix patterns and the matrix color that make this turquoise easier to identify. In fact, you can almost overlook the color here, because the intricate matrix is what makes these stones so recognizable and highly sought after. #8 turquoise typically shows a fine webbing that can vary from golden brown to dark brown and even to black, creating striking contrast and desirable character.

It is asked for by name & there are buyers who are thirsty to find just about any jewelry made with it. Because it is dwindling down, has caused it to increase in price & goes for a lot per carat. THE EARRINGS:

Designed in a timeless, classic drop style earring, these were designed with a simple bezel setting so the sole focus remains on the turquoise rather than any busy, elaborate sterling work — because with these earrings, it’s all about showcasing the turquoise!

Made in an elegant, elongated style, the turquoise was carefully chosen to create a matching pair of earrings. The stones display a soft aqua—minty green tone with a beautiful, webby matrix ranging from golden to deeper brown tones, a natural pattern that gives these cuts their distinctive character.

I personally think the weight is fine, but if you’re a woman who can’t tolerate even the slightest weight on your ears, then these may feel too heavy. If you shop online, it helps to know what weight your ears can comfortably handle so you don’t end up with something that pulls. I suggest taking a pair of earrings you already find comfortable, or on the brink of what may feel a bit heavy & then weighing them, and comparing that weight to these. . Factored also into the price for these, is not only the ‘LIMITED” stock of Larry’s turquoise, but also it's Federico’s name and his decades old reputation in the industry, the quality of the turquoise, the rarity, availability, the number of carats and the cost per carat, as well as the sterling cost that it took to make.. Also included is the need to compensate the artisan (And or staff) for the time and expertise required to make the earrings for Federico. These are just some of the elements that together explain and contribute to the higher final price of these earrings.
