TOMMY SINGER: b.1940-d.2014

Tommy was best known for being the innovator of what was called "Chip Inlay" that began in popularity in the early 70's. This technique started when waste from the money he spent on turquoise & coral was laying on the floor from cutting. Hating to see this still 'good' material being swept up & dumped in the trash,he came up with this genius idea & that was to use these chips,by mixing them with some epoxy & filling them into his designs. This design has been stolen by people worldwide, but it's Tommy we give this credit to. There are many other styles credited to him & you can gather a wealth of information by googling his name.

THE CUFF:

Tommy was a 'traditional' Navajo silversmith & this 'cut out/overlay' technique was another style he mastered & was very much known for.. Constructed in a very Hopi style & some may even think at 1st glance, that it's a Hopi piece.

If you're not familiar with this technique, it where the artisan has 2 separate sheets of sterling, where the bottom sheet is left oxidized in order to accentuate the cut out/overlay design as it now lays atop of a bottom sheet. What I notice about this particular cuff & which makes it a little different from regular cuffs, Is that Tommy 'beveled' the perimeter on both sides(As opposed to just being flat on the edges) which not only gives this a comfortable feel on the arm,but gives it an overall softer look to it. This is made with a lighter gauge sterling, so this isn't super heavy..

It's made for either man or woman & is made for a large 7-1/2" wrist size..If you not only have a large wrist, but have a 'fleshy' arm where you need a wider gap opening to put it on, then the 1-5/8" wide gap opening will help with a larger arm.. Cuff's are the only bracelet that have to fit perfect, so it's important this fits you right.(Please click on 'How To Fit A Cuff )

**If you zoom in on the last 2 photos,I will be listing Tommy's Concho belt that is also made with a 'cut out-overlay' technique! So please check back!**Already listed under “Men’s Jewelry/“Belt Buckles” is his cut out overlaid turquoise belt buckle!
