Ke-wa Pueblo "Folk Art Artist" "MARY TAFOYA" 5 Panel~Whimsical Mosaic Necklace

When we think of the true meaning of 'art',Mary comes to mind, but only with Mary,it is in stone & shell form..She brings a colorful, very whimsical, positive feel with this piece & there is no doubt,it can turn a gloomy day to sunny!

Made where she takes the raw materials & cuts each & every piece down to size, from the whole shell to the big rocks & it isn't till then, where the fun & magic starts to happen. She will cut the shells & use the shape to create these happy, picturesque subjects & really doesn't know what she will do,until she starts lay each one out.For example, just look at photo 6,where she sliced the speckled "Terebra" snail shell & used it to make a frame for all the colorful little mosaic pieces inside it! Or on the center one, where she sliced the "Cowrie" shells that act as a part of the display, creating it's own unique, one of a kind piece..

You will never find another that will 'work' shells, the way this artist does!

Her signature "Conus" shell sits at the top of each panel & what was used for these, was the very top of the shell, that makes it look like a button. Each panel is different, each have their own individuality.

The cuts have a deliberate irregularity to them & this is the beauty of Mary's work, with having a 'perfect at being imperfect' sort of look! Each Panel is drilled horizontally & the Kingman roundel beads are then strung to complete it's beauty.

~ANOTHER THING ABOUT MARY'S JEWELRY~

You don't look to 'match' anything together with Mary's,since no 2 pieces are the same, you match the 'look' & whether its earrings, pins, pendants, necklaces & because of the same stones & style she uses, they all go hand in hand together!!
